India Snatched Saudi Arabia & UAE From Pakistan?

A landmark agreement was reached between UAE and Israel on Thursday, according to which Israel will suspend its plans to annex large parts of the West Bank and begin diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Until now, Israel had no diplomatic relations with the Gulf Arab states. US President Donald Trump himself announced the agreement.

Palestinian leaders are reportedly shocked by the deal. According to Arab News, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has proposed to convene a meeting of the Arab League after the agreement.

He fears that the agreement will lead to stronger ties with Israel in other Gulf countries and will have an impact on the “Arab Peace Accord”.

In a way, their concern is justified. The initial reaction of other Islamic countries to the UAE’s decision is not encouraging. Egypt and Jordan have welcomed the UAE’s decision.

This development will affect relations between the Gulf countries, the Middle East and other countries of the world, including India.

With this new agreement, polarization is visible in the Islamic world.

Harinder Mishra, a senior journalist, living in Israel, says that at present the Muslim countries of the world are divided into three camps.

In the first camp, some countries seem to stand with Iran, which has a strong position on Israel.

The second camp is led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and the third group is from Turkey, Malaysia and Pakistan. Overall, this decision will further increase the division of the Islamic world.

What Effect Will The UAE-Israel Agreement Have On India?India Snatched Saudi Arabia & UAE From Pakistan?

In such situation, the question arises as to what effect this decision will have on India. According to Andrani Bagchi, diplomatic editor of the Times of India, India has good relations with both Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Israel and India share a common vision for regional security in the Middle East. The UAE is an emerging power. Therefore, if these two countries are coming together, India will welcome it.

But will the merger of these two countries have any effect on the issue of isolation of Pakistan?

“Pakistan has isolated itself along with China,” Adrani said. But we cannot deny the fact that Pakistan will always dominate Islamic countries. Pakistan is the only Islamic country to have nuclear power. Because of this, it has a different status in Islamic countries. ‘

She says that if Pakistan is a little isolated today, it is because of itself and its policies.

Harinder Mishra says that earlier Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were considered with Pakistan. Still, for some time now their relations with India have been much better than with Pakistan.

An example of this is the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) last year in which India was invited as a special observer even though Pakistan did not want it. Pakistan was against the invitation, but the UAE did not listen to one of them.

Pakistan Factor

This was first time in five decades that India had been invited to the summit. Not only that, at this year’s OIC annual meeting, but Pakistan also accused India of spreading Islamophobia, which was rejected. This time the Maldives came out in support of India.

Harinder Mishra says that even after the Balakot attack, there was the closeness with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. There have been several reports that Saudi Arabia has played a vital role in rescuing Indian pilots. There was a lot pressure on Pakistan from the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Recently, when Pakistan raised questions in the OIC about the repeal of Article 370 in Indian-administered Kashmir, Saudi Arabia made it clear that it was an internal matter of India.

Then, because of the Pakistani attitude, Saudi Arabia demanded the repayment of the 1 billion loan given to Pakistan, which Pakistan had taken in 2018.

In 2019, the UAE awarded Prime Minister Modi the country’s highest civilian honour.

All these developments show that India’s relations with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have been excellent and if any agreement is reached with Israel, then, of course, India will stand with this group of Islamic countries.

Other Gulf countries, which will support the agreement, will also have good relations with India. It will also help India isolate Pakistan.

Not only is the world moving towards multi-polarization, but India, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are emerging as a larger group.

Harinder Mishra sees another significant impact of this decision on India. In recent days, India and Israel have signed several agreements on defence equipment.

Gulf countries are considered a significant market for defence equipment. In such a situation, there will be no problem in selling whatever military equipment India will build with the help of Israel.

The Indian Defense Minister has also raised the slogan of ‘Self-Reliance India’ in the defence sector.

After The UAE, It Is Saudi Arabia’s Turn.

The friendship between the UAE and Saudi Arabia is also famous. In such a situation, most people think that Saudi Arabia will follow in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates.

But Indrani’s opinion is slightly different. He believes that Saudi Arabia may not be fully open to relations with Israel.

Explaining the reason behind this, she says that when it comes to religious issues, everyone in the Middle East looks to Saudi Arabia. For this reason, given Israel’s history, it may be difficult for Saudi Arabia to support Jews openly, even though politically Saudi Arabia has been with Israel for many years.

Andrani says Saudi Arabia has allowed India to use its airspace to launch an airline between India and Israel. This is an example of how Saudi attitudes toward Israel have changed.

But Harinder Mishra doesn’t think so. He says, “There is an old saying, a friend of a friend, friend of friend and enemy of a friend, enemy.” Iran is now the enemy of both Saudi Arabia and Israel. So it’s very likely that the two will be together in the future.

He says the US president’s press conference on Thursday also indicates this.

Speaking to the media after the agreement, the US President said, “Now that the ‘ice’ has melted, I hope that some more Arab Muslim countries will follow the UAE.”

The Friendship Between Israel And Saudi Arabia

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants Saudi Arabia to be with Israel. His resignation is currently being demanded in Israel. He is accused of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, as well as mishandling the Corona epidemic.

In such a situation, he wants the more good relations with other countries, the more successful they will be in isolating the Palestinians and the easier it will be for Israel to create a positive environment.

Besides, both Israel and Saudi Arabia consider Iran, their enemy. In this regard, there has been cooperation between the two in the last few years.

Today, Iran’s hostility with other countries in the Arab world is based on religion. Iran is a Shiite-majority country, while Saudi Arabia is a Sunni-majority country.

As a friend of the USA, Israel has always been a target of Iran. Following the US-Israel-UAE agreement, hostility between Iran and Israel will now escalate.

On several occasions, Israel’s army chief and other leaders have made statements in which they said the two countries have a common interest. Iran is a threat to us in the Middle East, and we are ready to face it together.

The two countries have been sharing intelligence against Iran for some time. Israel itself has acknowledged this.
