A child with a rare genetic disorder was born in a hospital in Howrah, West Bengal. So far in medical history, there is a record of taking birth of 250 such children. Gynecologist Dr. Nuza B. Kamal told, “This is a very rare disorder.
When I looked at the medical literature, I found that there were only 200 to 250 cases reported in the world.”

This rare disorder is called Harlequin Ichthyosis. The skin of an infant with Harlequin Ichthyosis is very hard and discolored. In this, such marks appear on the body as if someone had made a rip with a knife.
It is a mainly autosomal recessive disease that occurs due to consanguineous marriage i.e. marriage in the same family or relatives.
At the moment the parents are in a state of shock, so it is difficult to convince them all about it right now.
Doctor Nuja said, “Parental counseling has been done and they have accepted to take the child. Skin doctors should come forward and do research on it.
This is a very rare genetic condition. Children, There is very little chance of survival – from zero to 5%. We have referred the child for higher medical treatment. ”
Parents have been advised to transfer the child to the medical college for research purposes. He is a little scared and wants to keep the child with him. If the child does not survive, then he can hand it over to research.
